Jeeps have been around since the 1950s and have grown in popularity ever since. In 1987, jeeps were re-designed and termed the Wrangler. Since then it has be re-modified in 1997; the demand for Wrangler Jeeps has been on an up scale since its launch. Produced in Toledo, Ohio, at Jeep's Toledo South Assembly plant, the 1987 Wrangler jeeps were marketed as YJ and were manufactured up until 1995. The TJ Wrangler jeep commenced production in 1997 and is currently still being produced. The TJ Wrangler was introduced in 1997 and featured a coil-spring suspension and iconic round headlamps. The first Wrangler to sport protective air bags, the TJ had a number of changes installed in it. It had a larger fuel storage capacity, new console design, and intermitted wipers. The TJ was later evolved to the TJ Wrangler Rubicon which featured Dana 44 axles for the front and rear, 4.10:1 differential gears, 16 in alloy wheels, and built-in air-actuated locking differentials. Often termed the 'Tomb Raider' these were produced in a limited edition of only 1000 units. There are number of accessories of TJ Wrangler available such as seats, tires and soft tops. The replacement soft black top is one such accessory manufactured by Smittybuilt / Outland Automotives. This soft top is denim black in color and is fade resistant. It is stiched with marine grade, wick-stop thread that seals the stitch holes. In addition, this soft top uses a special posilock seal into the belt rails This seal lasts longer and looks better than all other replacement tops. |
