About Walkie Talkie

A walkie-talkie is a hand-held half duplex bi-directional electronic radio transceiver. The first ever walkie-talkies were made for military use. The main characteristics of a walkie-talkie include a half duplex channel which is used as the communication line and a push-to-talk button which when pressed starts the transmission. The basic design of a walkie-talkie is the same as that of a telephone handset; however the built-in speaker on the walkie-talkie is much louder and can be heard by the user as well as people in the surrounding area. The first ever radio receiver transmitter was created by Motorola in 1940. It was backpacked and was the originally called the Motorola SCR-300 and was nick-named the 'Walkie-Talkie'. It was developed at the Galvin Manufacturing Company by an engineering team comprising of Dan Noble who designed the product using FM technology, Henryk Magnuski who was the chief RF engineer, Marion Bond, Llyod Morris, and Bill Vogel. Motorola, also manufactured the AM SCR-536 which was used during the war, it was nick-named the 'Handie-Talkie'. Walkie-talkies have become a valuable tool for efficient communication especially for the police, emergency services, and industrial and commercial users. There are specific frequencies assigned for these services. Usage of walkie-talkies may require licenses depending on their functionality. Walkie-talkies are also very popular as toys for kids. They are also used extensively in the corporate world so as to enhance communication between various departments in an organization. They are also very popular amongst amateur radio operators.
