The Buell Motorcycle Company is founded by ex Harley-Davidson engineer Erik Buell. From 1998, the company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harley-Davidson. It has its base in East Troy, Wisconsin. The company specializes in manufacture of sports bikes. The motorcycles are designed around mass centralization, low unsprung weight, and frame rigidity. A hollow frame is used as the fuel tank and the hollow rear swingarm holds the engine oil. The motorcycle models that are currently in production are Blast, Firebolt, Lightning, Lightning CityX, and Ulysses XB12X. The Buell Blast belongs to the category of naked bikes. It roars to life by a single cylinder, 4-stroke, and 492cc engine. It churns out 34 horsepower at 6500 rpm and a torque of 30 ft/lbs at 5500 rpm. The engine is air-cooled and there are two valves per cylinder. The fuel tank has a capacity of 2.80 gallons. An electric starter puts this bike on a move. The bike is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox and a Kevlar belt drive. The suspension system of the bike comprises of Showa conventional forks as suspension in the front and Showa non-adjustable gas charge compression shocks in the rear. Both the suspensions have a travel of 101mm. The braking system consists of single 320mm disc brake with 2-piston calipers in the front and single 220mm disc brake with 1-piston calipers in the rear. The bike has a wheelbase of 55.3 inches and a ground clearance of 5.3 inches. The seat height is adjustable and at the lowest setting it measures to 27.5 inches. |
