About Cbr Honda

After World War II, the Japan-based Honda Motor Company fulfilled the local need for cheaper transportation by integrating cheap bicycles and internal combustion engines. Leading the market by the 1960s, it dominated major world markets with its cheap and efficient motorcycles. In the 1970s, Honda positioned itself as the world's largest producer of motorcycles. Honda launched the street versions of its popular on-track racing series, the Honda CBR. The models were christened CBR XX RR, where XX stands for the engine displacement and RR for 'Race Replica'. The primary difference between the high performance racing bikes and the consumer versions were the engines. The RR series had inline engines, as opposed to the 'V' engines implemented in the professional racing bikes. The market saw the first CBR250, based on a light-weight 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, 6-gear motorcycle produced between 1986 and 1996. The various models produced power ranging between 40 PS to 45 PS at a peak 18,500 rpm. Later, the 'BabyBlade' CBR400RR with a 400cc engine delivering a top speed of 125mph (200km/h) was developed; a forerunner to the CBR900RR 'FireBlade' series. The CBR600 F2 followed, being in production from 1989, featuring a 599c engine with 4 carburetors, electronic ignition, and a twelve plate clutch. The Honda CBR 900RR 'FireBlade' series hit the markets in the 1990s. Featuring a 4-cylinder, 893 cc inline engine, and weighing only 185 kilos, the FireBlade was only succeeded by an upgraded 918 cc engine, followed by a 929 cc engine, USD (upside-down) shock absorbers, and a fuel injection system in 2000. Recent times saw the launch of the CBR1000RR, having an inline 998cc 4-cylinder Honda RC211V engine with liquid cooling in 2004. Advanced technological implementations in this bike included Dual Stage Fuel Injection (DSFI) and a Computer-controlled digital transistorized ignition system. Honda upgraded its assembly line with the introduction of a sport-touring motorcycle, the Honda CBR 1100 XX Super Blackbird. The displacement measured 1137cc structured into a liquid cooled, 4-stroke, 16-valve DOHC inline 4 engine, generating a maximum of 165 BHP of power. It was in production from 1997 and ended in 2005.
