Hayabusa is the Japanese name for the peregrine falcon, which just happens to be the fastest creature on the planet. According to the 2001 and 2004 editions of Guinness Book of World Records, it also happens to be the name of the fastest production motorcycle on the planet. Just like its namesake, the Suzuki Hayabusa is capable of reaching speeds over 200 miles per hour. The Suzuki Motorcycle Company first introduced the Hayabusa to the public in 1999. Because of its high speeds and the location of its foot pegs, the company classified the motorcycle as a sport bike. However, since the bike is fairly simple to ride and has a slightly wider wheelbase, a few enthusiasts believe it's better suited to the touring bike category. Even though some motorcycle reviewers have stated that the Hayabusa is a hybrid between a sport and a touring bike, people who are looking for a true crotch rocket certainly won't be disappointed. The Hayabusa is a very powerful motorcycle that takes off with the slightest amount of acceleration. Plus, it includes aerodynamic styling that provides the rider with a lot of wind deflection. Because the bike has such a smooth ride, it's sometime hard to tell exactly how fast it's traveling. Fortunately, the digital speedometer is strategically placed so the rider can easily see it. |
