Def Leppard was formed in 1977 in Sheffield, England as a part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal rock bands. Their albums 'Pyromania' in 1983 and 'Hysteria' in 1987 made Def Leppard one of the leading rock artists. Def Leppard's music is a combination of hard rock, glam rock, AOR, and heavy metal. The band developed a distinctive sound that comprised of space aged guitar sounds, processed drums and sound effects. The band was initially called 'Deaf Leopard' but was later modified to Def Leppard. Their ever increasing popularity landed them a recording contract with Phonogram/Vertigo records. Def Leppard launched their debut album titled 'On Through the Night' on March 14, 1980. Their second album named 'High N Dry' was produced by Robert John 'Mutt' Lange who also happened to be AC/DC's music producer. Their song 'Bringin' on the Heartbreak' was one of the first metal videos to be aired on MTV in 1982. Their third album was also produced by Lange and was called 'Pyromania'; it released on May 20, 1983. Their fourth album titled 'Hysteria' released on the 3rd of August, 1987; it was one of their most successful albums with more than seven singles featuring on the US hot 100 list. Def Leppard's fifth album released on March 31, 1992 and was named 'Adrenalize'. They also released two other albums named 'Slang' and 'Euphoria'. On October 23, 1995 the band entered the Guinness Book of World Records for performing three concerts in three continents in just one day. Def Leppard is one of only five rock bands that have two original albums selling more than 10 million records each in the U.S. The only other bands to achieve this are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Van Halen.
