Gibson Guitar Company is a world renowned guitar manufacturing company based in Kalamazoo, Michigan USA and was later shifted to Nashville, Tennessee. The company was founded by Orville Gibson who was born in Chateaugay, N.Y., in the year 1856. He was a music lover and started manufacturing mandolins which were distinctive with a carved out arched solid wood top and back and bent wood sides. He described the design of the older mandolins as 'looking like potato bugs.' His innovative idea revolutionized the way mandolins were manufactured. His design was much easier to manufacture as well as produced better sound. The Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co, Ltd. was launched to market Gibson instruments. Gibson's started manufacturing guitars and soon became famous for their six-string guitars. They also developed a range of bass guitars that made a mark in their own way in the music industry. Their range of bass guitars include, the 'Gibson EB-0' which is the bass version of the SG, the 'Gibson EB-1b' which is also nicknamed 'Violin Bass', the 'Gibson EB-2' which is a bass version of the ES-335, the 'Gibson EB-3', the 'Gibson EB-6', the 'Gibson RD bass', the 'Gibson Thunderbird' a bass version of the firebird, the 'Gibson Ripper,' the 'Gibson Grabber', the 'Gibson g3', and the 'Gibson Victory Standard Bass'. Gibson Guitars are an indispensable part of the music industry. Many of the great guitarists of this generation and veterans from the past have been patrons of Gibson Guitars. |
