Born on 26th May, 1984 Henry Kuhrmeyer also known as Kay is pioneer of the Kay Musical Instrument Company. He attended the St. Paul high school and completed his graduation from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business. Henry was also a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity, where he was nicknamed Kay by his brothers. In year 1920, Henry got married to the Rosamond Stanley, a New York girl, and relocated to Chicago to take advantage of the business opportunities. His talent was recognized by a musical instrument producer, who offered him an opportunity to invest in Stromberg-Voisinet. In the year 1923, he became the Secretary for Stromberg-Voisinet. With the help three very talented professionals - Joseph Zorzi, Philip Gabriel, and John Abbott, Henry introduced an archtop guitar. In 1929-30, he was served as the President the Association of Musical Merchandise Manufacturers. Kuhrmeyer worked very closely with the United Reproducers Corporation of St. Charles, Illinois and applied the technology of amplification in Stromberg-Voisinet's guitars. In the year 1935, he formed the Kay Musical Instrument Company at 1640 W. Walnut St. in Chicago, I1. Kuhrmeyer started importing violins and cellos from Germany; however after the World War II it became extremely difficult to trade with Germany. The Kay Musical Instrument Company now manufactures many high quality guitars for both students and professionals. Their famous Gold 'K' guitars can be easily identifiable by the huge reverse painted clear plastic Kelvinator looking logo on the headstock. Apart from guitars, Kay Musical Company also deals in Mandolins, Amplifiers, Banjo, Harmonica and Violins. |
