The word “Coffee” has derived from Arabic word Qah’wa which originally mean wine. It is a beverage prepared from the seeds of a coffee plant, which most of the times are referred to as coffee beans. There are two species of coffee plants Coffea Arabica and Coffea canephora, the difference between the two is, the latter species has forty to fifty percent more of caffeine. Coffee is prepared using different methods depending on the type of coffee required and the kind of raw material used. If the raw material is whole coffee beans then it needs to be grinded, the fineness of the grounds has major impact on the brewing, it helps to extract optimal amount of flavor from the beans. There are three methods of producing coffee grounds for brewing.
Burr grinding wherein there are two elements crushing or tearing the bean with less risk of burning, they can either be in conical shape or wheel shape, burr grinders with disk type burrs grind faster than the conical burr grinder giving more warmth to the coffee. Another method is chopping which is used by most of the grinders today, Blade grinders smash the beans with the blade at a faster speed giving finely smaller and larger particles of ground resulting in more warm coffee from the burr coffee and the last method is Pounding, if burr coffee grinder is not available, it is suitable to pound the coffee in a motar or pestle.
