Bruce Weber was born on March 29, 1946, at Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He is an American photographer and filmmaker. He moved to New York at the age of 20 to attend New York University and The New School, where he honed his skills in photography. His photographs were mostly in black and white.
Weber shot to fame with his campaign for Calvin Klein in the late eighties and early nineties. The public was shocked and amused with his portrayal of nearly naked male and female bodies. He also worked on the Ralph Lauren campaign, which was much “cleaner” and the models were covered. High-end magazines such as “Vanity Fair”, “Vogue”, and “Interview” have featured his works. Weber’s work has been displayed worldwide and complied into several books.
Later, Bruce Weber turned his attention to filmmaking. He filmed a boxing documentary called “Broken Noses” in 1987, which was based on the Portland area boxer and trainer, Andy Minsker. Another documentary made by him in 1989, “Let’s Get Lost”, was based on the jazz trumpeter, Chet Baker. 1992 saw the release of a nine-minute short film, “Backyard Movie”. In 1990, he directed a music video for the Pet Shop Boys for their album, “Behavior”. The song was called “Being Boring”. The video attracted attention as well as controversy. Weber directed two more music videos for the Pet Shop Boys in 1996 and 2002. The year 2001 saw Bruce Weber release yet another movie, “Chop Suey Club”. |
