Since 1954, Dr. Arlin Horton has been a faithful and sincere leader in the Christian school movement. Today, he is the president and founder of the Pensacola Christian College, the Pensacola Christian Academy, and A Beka Book. Named after his wife Mrs. Arlin (Beka) Horton, A Beka Book publishes K-12 curriculum especially for fundamentalist Christian schools and home schooling. They are currently one of the leading publishers of Christian-based educational material.
Mrs. Horton is the senior vice-president of A Beka Book; she was a former Bible teacher and, hence, imparts her through knowledge of the Bible in all A Beka books. Dr. Arlin Horton claims that the primary goal of the company is not sales and profit, but preparations for the eternal life. A Beka publishes books in a range of subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Health, History, and the Bible.
Between mid-2005 and mid-2006 alone, over 38,000 students enrolled at the A Beka home schooling system. A Beka offers three choices in home schooling, namely, DVD Option, Traditional Parent-Directed Option, and Textbooks/Materials for Home. A Beka Book firmly believes in the values of traditional schooling and text. Their methods of teaching are typically “old school”, right from the primary classes. |
