The turnover on children's books is higher than any other segment of the market. While adults tend to hold onto their books starting in college, or at least only give them up grudgingly, children's books are outgrown as quickly as children's clothing. As titles may or may not sell as quickly as publishers hope, many of these books end up as bargain children's books and are ready to be snapped up by a sharp eye. Children's books are also heavily weighted towards the classics (of children's literature, of course). There are many new children's titles every year, but there is hardly a child alive who hasn't read Charlotte's Web or Peter Pan. These stories are in the public domain, and any publisher has the right to print them. This competition drives prices down, allowing for a healthy market of bargain children's books. If there was ever an appropriate situation to buy bargain items, it is when buying for for children. As the little ones outgrow books, toys, and clothing at lightening speed, there is no need to pay full price unless absolutely necessary. Bargain children's books will still bring the same smiles and wonderment as full price; the joy of reading is one of the greatest gifts you can give to a child. Bargain children's books does not imply only used volumes, though they are certainly available. Bargain children's books simply means a good value for your money. Some of the most desirable titles will be available, as will some undiscovered treasures that you might not otherwise have picked up for your child or grandchild. |
