Cookbooks have been around since the late 4th century A.D. and are essential tools for meal preparation. Used cookbooks are a superb investment for cooks of all ages and experience levels. Used cookbooks not only cost less than new ones, but they are oftentimes well worn and written in with notes that can contain cooking secrets that may help you improve your skills. Even if you don't find a used cookbook with years of notes and recipe substitutions, it can still be a great find. Used cookbooks come in all varieties, featuring everything from Southern to Japanese food, and Jamaican to French cuisine. Specialty cookbooks deal with soups, desserts, meats, vegetables, and more. Vegan and vegetarian cookbooks are specially designed for use with no-animal product and no-meat diets as well. Specially designed diet systems advertised on television and radio ads often feature their own cookbooks. A lot of times, purchasing the used version will save you a large percentage of the original purchase price. Also, many used cookbooks feature alternate cooking methods like microwave, toaster or convection oven, and grill cooking. Foreign Cookbooks and Recipes Foreign cookbooks are great, but always consider your source when buying a used cookbook from another country or overseas manufacturer. First of all, be sure the measurements are specific to your country's measuring systems. For instance, an English cookbook is going to have metric measurements, while an American cookbook won't. Conversion charts are usually included in all cookbooks, but it is easier if the native measuring system of your home country is the main one used.
