Farmall tractors were produced by International Harvester in the middle of the twentieth century. International Harvester was a company from Chicago, Illinois that produced a variety of machines and vehicles for the agricultural industry. The company got its start in 1902 when McCormack Harvesting Machine Company and the Deering Harvesting Company merged to form International Harvester. The Farmall tractor was introduced in 1924. The Farmall H, a small general-purpose tractor, was a best-seller, with over 390,000 tractors sold. At the time, it was the best selling tractor in North America. The Farmall H could be used for raising row crops, planting, plowing, harvesting, raking, and baling. The Farmall H was sold between the years 1939 and 1953. When International Harvester first developed the Farmall tractor, there were no plans on making more. However, the extreme popularity of these tractors convinced the company to create new models, which would have more power and more features than the original. The Farmall M, which was sold between 1939 and 1952, was the largest row crop tractor that International Harvester made. Although International Harvester is best known for their line of Farmall tractors, they sold other equipment as well. Plows, construction equipment, jet engines, trucks, and household appliances were other International Harvester products. They were the first to use a tricycle-like design on tractors. This unique innovation was intended to aid in the harvesting of tall crops, such as cotton and corn. |
