Sony has always sought new ways to bring technology to the masses. As manufacturers were competing to create new, often expensive formats to save digital photos, Sony released its Mavica line of digital cameras. What was the revolutionary approach they had taken? These Sony Mavica cameras simply allowed pictures to be saved directly to inexpensive floppy disks. Over the years, Sony has perfected their line of Mavica cameras, discarding the use of floppy disks and replacing them with equally convenient CD-RWs. Nevertheless, no matter the improvements they have made, the Mavica line of cameras has always been intended to provide a high-quality product that is easy and convenient to use. Unfortunately, one of its main drawbacks is the speed (or lack thereof) at which it writes and reads information to and from the disc. Although a Sony Mavica camera may seem a little expensive up-front--especially when compared to other formats of equal power--it is an investment that will quite possibly save you money over time. CD-RWs are extremely inexpensive and are capable of storing quite a number of pictures. More importantly, such discs are reusable, meaning that the Mavica, combined with CD-RWs, is one of the best values when it comes to digital photography storage. Another factor to take into account with Sony Mavica cameras is their size. Although they are designed with a comfortable grip, they remain quite bulky and are not exceedingly travel-friendly. This is important to keep in mind, as the Mavica line of cameras is known for being quite delicate due to the intricacy of their design.
