Baby Lulu is the brainchild of a creative, independent designer by the name of Erin Murphy, who started sewing at the age of four when she decided that her pet frogs needed special gear. By the age of ten, Murphy was already making clothes for her relatives. She moved to Los Angeles after growing up in British Columbia and honed her designing skills as an assistant. In order to earn a little extra spending money, Murphy started selling handcrafted overalls to children's stores, and these items won rave reviews among the community. Eventually she was able to start her own company, Baby Lulu, with the profits from her independent venture. Pretty soon, Murphy began taking orders from large boutique shops, such as Fred Segal and Nordstrom. Murphy was dissatisfied with ready-made fabrics and prints, and so she used her creativity to design her own. Her whimsical designs differed from the "cookie cutter" offerings of many of her larger scale market peers. The handmade essence of Baby Lulu pants, shirts, and other clothing items attracted fashion critics and parents alike. By 1998, Murphy decided to expand beyond making clothes for young girls and babies. Her Pepper Toes label, made for young boys, proved an instant success with parents and kids alike. You can also find quality Lulu bedding, stitched from the same whimsical patterns that you can find in the Lulu apparel catalog. From designer embroidery to plush cottons to delicate prints, Baby Lulu offers spirited designs for kids. |
