Gymboree Clothing began as an offshoot of Gymboree Play and Music, which opened back in 1976 as a specialty children's retailer. The Gymboree clothing brand appeared in 1986 to rave reviews both from industry insiders and from kids and parents. Gymboree offers jumpers, sweaters, pants, overalls, blouses, dresses, and more. Today, you can find over 580 Gymboree retail outlets in North America alone as well as more than five-dozen Janie and Jack shops--Gymboree's apparel line for babies. Gymboree also operates a line of women's apparel called Janeville. These clothes and accessories are mainly for women who thrive on individuality, style, and design. All told, the Gymboree Corporation operates retail, accessory, and brand centers in more than 28 countries around the world. The company's main headquarters is in San Francisco and its distribution center is located not far away in Dixon, California. Gymboree carries a wide range of clothing, accessories, and other merchandise for kids between the ages of zero and seven. Accessories include hats, bibs, socks, blankets, and plush toys. Thanks to great performances throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the store has moved into new markets. Color coordination, comfort, and unique details are all hallmarks of Gymboree products, yet these fashionable clothes can stand up to tough outdoor play as well. In terms of Gymboree's ancillary brands, Janie and Jack offer hand-embroidered, finely crafted wears for newborns and toddlers. Janeville stores retail evocative, stylish fashions. All told, there are 16 Janeville stores in the US. Gymboree also runs five major outlets in the U.S. and sponsors a number of community development programs and employee participation activities.
