The name ‘Miu Miu’ is Miuccia Prada’s nickname and is her personal clothing line that has evolved from Prada. Born in 1949, Miuccia Prada is a fashion designer who inherited Prada SpA from her mother. Prada SpA was a leather goods business which she and her husband Patrizio Bertelli expanded into haute couture. Miuccia Prada is the youngest granddaughter of Mario Prada who founded the Prada fashion line. She also has a Ph.D. in political science.
Prada SpA started in the year 1915 and was originally known as ‘Fratelli Prada’ which means ‘Prada Brothers’ in Italian. In 1985, Miuccia gained her popularity with her sleek line of handbags made from Nylon. She designed Prada’s first ‘ready-to-wear’ collection in the autumn/winter season of 1989. This clothing line entirely contrasted Pradas previous designs that portrayed a more flamboyant and sexual look.
In addition to the Prada line, Miuccia Prada introduced the Miu Miu collection in 1992. This range targeted a younger audience with its artistic designs and attractive price tags. The Miu Miu line highlights a simplistic haute couture appearance, evoking a bohemian style on the whole. In their advertising campaigns, Miu Miu portrays ethereal models in “home photo” poses. The entire range on Miu Miu’s clothing line is often very simplistic, and induces an incessant image of sophisticated vintage items. Vogue magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour is known to have told Miuccia Prada that she was "the only reason anyone comes to Milan" for runway shows. |
