The American Eagle Bullion coins are the only bullion coins produced by the United States. Available in platinum, gold, and silver, this coin's inherent value is as important as its cache to collectors. Designed for aesthetic beauty, these coins are literally worth their weight in gold, which is why they are prized by investors. Created to allow investors to diversify their portfolios, American Eagle bullion coins have been in production since 1986. (However, platinum wasn't added until 1997.) These coins are made available through authorized purchasers; the U.S. Mint does not sell them directly. The federal government, however, certifies the content, weight, and purity of each American Eagle Bullion coin. Though they're not available to the public, collectors can invest in American Eagle Bullion proofs from the U.S. Mint. These proofs have the same design of actual bullion coins. All coins feature the American eagle on the backside, along with the monetary value of the coin. The front of the platinum, silver, and gold coins feature the Statue of Liberty, Walking Liberty, and a design based on the historic $20 Double Eagle coin, respectively. For coin collectors, these proofs are ideal. While they don't have the value of the original bullion coins, they represent one of the most unique and distinctive sets of coins minted in the U.S. For someone whose collection focuses on U.S. minted coins, these offer an excellent way to diversify a collection. As most collectors will testify, a collection's diversity is one of the major keys to its value, which is why these bullion coins and proofs are prized by investors and coin collectors alike. |
