The Beatles were a craze in the 1960s. The band, their music and their compositions were worshipped by many. The band consisted of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were mainly into English Pop/Rock and are held in high esteem till today for their artistic achievements, commercial success and their revolutionary style.
Sometime during 1964, when the craze for The Beatles was at its peak, Remco Beatles Dolls were launched in the stores. These dolls were 5 inches tall hard bodied dolls made out of rubber or plastic. They had rubber heads and lifelike hair. These dolls obviously were replicas of Paul, John, George and Ringo. On the rubber dolls, the names were printed on their feet, while on the plastic dolls, the names were printed at the back. Each of these dolls, were assigned their respective instruments in black plastic, with golden trims on it. These instruments had the autograph of the respective band member in golden trims. These dolls were issued in a trademarked Beatles box, with a window that permitted one to see, which Beatles doll was inside. These dolls were on the lines of bobble-head dolls. The heads of the bobble-head dolls are connected to its body with a spring, which makes the head wobble with the slightest touch.
These Beatles dolls, that were widely available in the 1960s, are a rarity today. However, the craze for these dolls is still persistent amongst ‘Beatles’ fans, and are treasured as collectibles today. Beatles dolls are long lasting; however, its value is decided by the amount of gold trims still present on the black plastic instrument. |
