Acoustic Research is a company known for high-quality speakers and accessories. Acoustic Research speakers come in many styles from indoor/outdoor speakers and architectural speakers to subwoofers and bookshelf speakers. They also make "home theater in a box" (HTiB) systems and matching speaker components. The electronics giant Audiovox owns Acoustic Research. AR has been making technologically advanced stereo products and speakers for more than 50 years. Today, their products retail for hundreds of dollars, but can often be found for more discounted prices. AR also benefits from the customer service that goes along with the Audiovox name. Acoustic Research speakers like the ARVP25 and ARVP26 models are popular for home stereo or home theater use. The ARVP25 utilizes a 5.25-inch Polypropylene woofer and a one-inch soft dome tweeter. It's also relatively compact for its output, and stands just over a foot high. The ARVP26 set of bookshelf speakers from Acoustic Research features a 6.5-inch Polypropylene woofer, a one-inch soft dome tweeter, and measure at just over 13 inches tall. The ARVP25 can handle up to 150 watts of power per speaker, while the ARVP26 speakers can service up to 100 watts. Impedance Levels Both sets of bookshelf speakers feature a nominal impedance of eight ohms. This is standard for bookshelf speakers. This number refers to the speaker's average resistance to the flow of electrical current from the stereo's amplifier to the speaker and back. Speakers should typically carry a nominal impedance of four, six or eight ohms.
