For many people, a car subwoofer is what makes the pounding bass and deep groove of good driving music come alive. Many people buy their subwoofer last because it doesn't do much good on its own; but if you've been disappointed in your car stereo and you already have a good amp and good cables, a good subwoofer may be what you need to get more from your music. Your standard car speakers provide mostly treble--the upper range of the music--while providing only a small bass amplifier. There is no such thing as a speaker than can deliver all tones equally well--and when a speaker tries to play all tomes evenly, all will be muddied in the process. If you install a subwoofer, you will immediately find that the performance of all your other speakers improves, as well. You have to connect your car subwoofer to an amplifier. Make sure that the amplifier you have is of equal or greater power than your subwoofer, so that your speakers aren't damaged and your power supply doesn't get damaged. The higher wattage your subwoofer is designed to produce, the better and louder the sound will be. Similarly, the more watts your amplifier is, the more powerful the bass line will sound. Car subwoofers can often be purchased as a set with other speakers or with an amplifier. Buying your car stereo system as a set guarantees that all the components will work well together. Most car subwoofers, however, are compatible with any existing car stereo system. |
