Headphones are transducers that convert electrical signals, received from the media player or receiver, into sound using speakers placed in close proximity to the ear. Headphones are connected to the media player or receiver using a jack plug or a wireless connection. Wireless headphones are similar to wired headphones, except that they do not require chords to connect to media players.
Headphones wrap users in an envelope of sound without disturbing anyone else around. This means users can pump up the volume to max without upsetting anyone else around them. Head phones can enhance gaming pleasure while playing video games with 3D sound effect by helping users get a better judgment of the direction of the origin of the sound. Headphones are widely used to listen to stereo music. They are used with devices such as walkmans, mobile phones, CD Players, Mini Disc Players, MP3 Players and PCs.
There are three main types of headphones; ear buds, enclosed sets, and open-air ones. Ear Buds are the smallest of all available headphones, these headphones fit into the ear canal. They are quite efficient in keeping out background noises. They do not have headbands to support them and hence have to be tightly fitted into the ear canal to prevent them from falling off. Enclosed sets are the bulkiest of all headphones; these headphones enclose the ear entirely with padded cuffs. Enclosed sets generally have an over-the-head band. The padded cuffs keep out the surrounding sound and also help to make the headphone comfortable enough to be worn for prolonged periods. Open-Air headphones generally have foam cushioned ear cuffs that fit loosely around the ear. Though they look similar to enclosed headphones, they do not completely enclose the ear. They are also lighter and smaller than enclosed headphones.
Unlike enclosed headphones or ear buds, open-air headphones allow you to listen to surroundings while listening to music. Open-air sets come with a band that fits over the head (headband) or around the neck (neckband). Headphones allow you to listen to your audio in private and offer a level of quality that can be matched only by speakers which may cost you a packet. |
