While MP3 players are currently the most popular portable audio devices, they have one shortcoming over traditional Walkmen. If you want some variety in your listening, you can't get it on an iPod, which only plays the songs you have loaded onto it. Some manufacturers have begun to make FM tuners available for these portable audio devices, giving you the opportunity for maximum music variety and exposure to new music. Satellite radio companies like Sirius and XM Radio now offer satellite radio receivers that include the ability to play digital audio files in MP3 and WMA formats. Some receivers have as much as one gigabyte of storage space. This can be used to pause live radio broadcasts (much like digital video recorders allow you to pause live television). The latest generation of satellite radio and MP3 players incorporate the ability to save songs that you are listening to over the radio. You can then combine these newly saved audio tracks with your own MP3s to create new playlists. Some of these devices are compatible with music download services, as well, so you can have access to not only your MP3 collection, but also the library of songs available from the service and your satellite radio. One of the many attractions of satellite radio is that it can expose you to new artists. With satellite radio receivers capable of playing and saving MP3s, you can then go out and find additional songs by these newly discovered artists and load them onto your portable audio player. With these new audio players, you no longer need to carry multiple devices to listen to your music collection.
