“Ally McBeal” was a comedy-drama series created by David E. Kelly for the American audience. It first went on air in 1997, on the FOX network. The show focused on the main character of Ally McBeal, played by Calista Flockhart. The protagonist is a young lawyer working for the Boston-based legal firm, Cage, Fish and Associates. The show revolves around the lawyers in that firm. However, it did not focus much on the legal aspects, but instead revolved around their personal lives.
The Ally McBeal character found a huge fan following due to her eternal quest for true love. The other main characters in the first season were Greg Germann, Peter McNicol, Jane Krowiski, and Vonda Shepherd. Many other characters were also added in the other seasons and their roles essayed by famous actors such as Lucy Liu, Robert Downey Jr., and Portia de Rossi. A lot of other actors also made guest appearances on the show. The serial’s trademark was the bar where all the lawyers would hang out after work and Vonda Shepherd would sing, joined by the characters. Normally, every episode would wind up with some song that would suit the mood of the episode.
The show ran from September 9, 1997 to May 20, 2002. It was nominated for many awards, and won an Emmy for Outstanding comedy series besides a Golden Globe award for the best TV series in 1999. Some of the actors from the show have also won television awards. DVDs for all the Ally McBeal seasons have been released as well. |
