Playmates Toys has introduced an innovative, interactive doll called Amazing Amanda that appears to respond to stimuli, intelligently. The large doll uses voice recognition and sensory technology and can speak, eat, and respond to different objects. The amazing doll also utilizes articulated animatronics. She can recognize her mother’s voice and even respond to it. Amazing Amanda can display realistic facial expressions that make her appear lifelike. She smiles when she is supposedly happy and pouts on hearing ‘No’ — just like any normal young child. The doll also says ‘No’ when she doesn’t want something.
One should be aware of certain things to get the best performance from this doll. The room should be very quiet so as to get the optimum response from Amanda. If one squeezes her right hand for seven seconds, she goes into sleep mode. One should use this mode whenever possible, since switching off Amanda resets the doll. Amanda switches to a different activity whenever one squeezes her left hand for seven seconds. When she asks people what to do, they can respond with any of the key phrases such as “Go to the potty”, or “it’s time to eat.”
Amazing Amanda is 18 inches tall, and is dressed in a pink floral jumper along with a striped shirt. The doll comes with a change in outfits. Other accessories include a toothbrush, play food, a brush, three spoons, a potty, and a toddler dish. Amazing Amanda requires 6 AA batteries that have to be purchased separately.
