Dollfie is an anatomically correct doll introduced by a Japanese company in 1998. She is a fully customizable 22 inch ball-jointed doll. Her look is reminiscent of Japanese anime, with big eyes and a tiny button nose. She has a childlike aura about her. That said, all Dollfie dolls may not bear the same characteristics. Dollfie collectors have the option of choosing the combinations of features for a doll. They can also purchase an unfinished product and add their own personal touch. Dollfie has been distributed exclusively in Japan, but they will soon be sold in the United States. The demand for Dollfie outside of Japan makes the doll a hot commodity. Collectors and artists are willing to pay a premium for Dollfie dolls, but this may change as Dollfie distribution expands into the United States. In the seven years since it was first introduced, the Dollfie line has expanded considerably. There are now petite versions of the doll called Mini Super Dollfie. These dolls are more childlike than the original Dollfie and they come with their own miniature wardrobe. There is also the Super Dream Dollfie which has a more mature body. It stands slightly taller than the original Dollfie and it is more voluptuous. With Dollfie's introduction in the United States, the Dollfie fan base is bound to extend beyond the avid doll collector or anime fan. It also remains to be seen if Americans are accepting of the doll's anatomically correct form. Dollfie could truly revolutionize the western doll industry with a level of customization that the Japanese market has grown to appreciate.
