Kelly, Barbie's much younger sister, is one of the more recent additions to the Barbie family. She was first introduced in 1995 and has the trademark platinum blonde hair (though she is available as a brunette and an African-American), but is much smaller in stature. She has been marketed with an older sister named Stacie. Kelly's role in the Barbie line has been predominately as an accessory sort of doll. Kelly has been grouped with the I Can Be series of dolls as Barbie's patient. Barbie is portrayed as a doctor (all I Can Be dolls were in a professional role), and Kelly has a knee that kicks when Barbie taps it. Kelly has also been a part of the Nutcracker Ballet Barbie dolls--Jenny and Tommy were also featured in this production. More recent groupings that involved Kelly include the Dolls of the World series, where she is accompanied by two friends. They are from three different countries and are dressed in the traditional clothing--Germany, France, and Ireland are represented. Another set was offered that honored the attire of Holland, Spain, and Scotland Mattel also teamed up with David's Bridal for a Perfect Pair set. Kelly and Tommy are dressed in wedding attire, and she functions as the flower girl while he guards the ring. Her adorable features make her perfect as a cute companion to the other sweet little one, Tommy. Together, they were also Raggedy Ann and Andy, Minnie and Mickey Mouse, and Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter. |
