Robert Tonner is a name that any doll collector is most likely familiar with. He is the creator of the Tonner Doll Company, a company that has been one of the leading creators of collectible dolls since the early 1990s. Not only are these dolls created in exquisite detail and with fine fabrics, they are also made with an almost unparalleled passion for dolls and fashion. Ever since he was young, Robert Tonner has been fascinated by dolls and the world of fashion. He graduated from the Parsons School of Design and was immediately asked to join forces with Bill Blass, creator of the fashion line Blassport. There, Tonner became a top designer and made a name for himself among the best of the best. His designs have been featured in such publications as The New York Times and Vogue. He had been collecting dolls for quite some time, but it wasn't until 1982 when he decided to try his hand at sculpting and designing his own. Three years later, his creations were highly praised at the National Institute of American Doll Artists Conference in New York City. In 1991, Tonner officially left the world of fashion to pursue his doll creating endeavors full time. Several of his works have been permanently added to the Louvre Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, France. His dolls cover everything from little girls dolls to high fashion to character dolls from such classics as Alice in Wonderland and Bewitched. |
