Born as Christina María Aguilera on December 18, 1980, American pop singer-songwriter began her career in the entertainment industry, even before she completed her schooling. She was born in the in Guayaquil, Ecuador to a U.S. Army sergeant and a mother of German, French, English, Irish, and Dutch ancestry. She rose to fame with her major-label debut album titled “Christina Aguilera”. The album was launched in the August of 1999, included her first four simultaneously hit singles.
Christina initially used to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner", before Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey games, Pittsburgh Steelers football, and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games, for the sports teams of Pittsburgh. Her major break was offered in the year 1993, for performing in the Disney Channel's show, “The New Mickey Mouse Club”. The show included the now famous pop-stars, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Rhona Bennet, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell. She was acknowledged by most show viewers as “the Diva”; according to the documentary Driven on music channel, VH1. During the same period, Christina performed a highly noted performance of "I Have Nothing"; the original by famous singer, Whitney Houston.
Her song, “Reflection” reached a peak of the Top 20 on the Adult Contemporary Singles Chart, in 1998. The same was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award, under the category of "Best Original Song". Soon she released her self-titled album that scaled the top of the Billboard 200 and Canadian album charts. The songs "Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants", and "Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You)" reached the peak ranks on the Billboard Hot 100 during 1999 and 2000. Stripped was launched in the year 2002, attracting major criticism from her detractors and music critics. It evoked ire due to the underlying sexual overtones in the music video of her infamous song, “Dirrty”. |
