In addition, Sinatra’s career as a film actor made him a larger than life personality for people all over the world. Frank Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915, in Hoboken, New Jersey. Born in a quiet Sicilian family, he was the only child of his parents. Sinatra was initially interested in joining the armed forces during World War II. He was classified as 4-F at the Newark Induction Center, as he had a punctured eardrum. Hearing Bing Crosby on the radio inspired Sinatra and he started his singing career after he joined the Three Flashes. After acquiring Sinatra, the group changed their name to the Hoboken Four. His acting career begun in the early 1940s; however, he only appeared in musicals. His major acting breakthrough came in the drama “From Here to Eternity” where he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Pvt. Angelo Maggio.
