The premise of ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ revolves around Jeannie, who was imprisoned in a bottle for two thousand years. Astronaut Captain Tony Nelson was stranded in a deserted region after one of his flight launches, which had to be aborted because it misfired. He came across a peculiar looking bottle. He opened the cork and rubbed it when smoke emerged out of the bottle and with the smoke emerged Jeannie. Now that Capt. Nelson had set her free form her two-thousand year long imprisonment, he became Jeannie’s master. Thereafter, the story revolves around Jeannie fulfilling her master’s wishes. Apparently, Jeannie falls in love with Capt. Nelson, the moment he freed her and gradually the master-slave relationship develops into a romantic love story and Capt. Nelson and Jeannie marry towards the end of the series.
Actor Larry Hagman played the role of Captain Tony Nelson and Jeannie was played by Barbara Eden. Barbara Eden also plays the roles of Jeannie’s mother and sister. Jeannie’s bottle, was a very important aspect of the series and required maximum care and effects. |
