Spiderman is the fictitious character created for Marvel Comics by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. Through the years he has become a popular superhero and has appeared in newspaper comic strips, animated television series and even on the silver screen with two successful movies and the third set to be released in 2007 directed by Sam Raimi, staring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker.
The main theme revolves around Spiderman’s everyday endeavors to save people and the town from power thirsty villains, Peter Parker’s struggle to support his aunt and his love for Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy and his job as a freelance photographer hired by J. Jonah Jameson to capture Spiderman photos.
Spiderman is the new, strong and courageous version of the timid Peter Parker, after he was bitten by a radioactive spider when he was 15 years old, as he was attending a science exhibition. The bite transforms him from a lonely nerd to a super hero overnight. Peter Parker lives with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May Parker in Queens, New York. He is endowed with spider-like qualities such as sticking to walls and ceilings, enhanced strength and agility and an extra-sensory perception. To make good use of his new found powers, Peter embarks on a journey to gain fame and fortune and enters a wrestling match against a professional wrestler. The manager of the show refuses to give him the promised amount after he wins the match stating that it isn’t his problem. Disappointed, Peter allows the robber, who robs the very same manager, to escape saying that it was not his problem. The irony of the situation is that the very same robber kills Peter’s Uncle Ben and runs away with his car. The story kicks off from there with Spiderman learning the important lesson that “with great power comes great responsibility” quoted by his Uncle Ben and vows to fight injustice. |
