"SWAT Cats" was an animated TV show which ran from 1993 to 1995. All told, 23 episodes of "SWAT Cats" were aired. Three other episodes were made, but never shown. "SWAT Cats" was a Hanna-Barbera property. As such, it followed a very conventional story and stylistic mode. Since its abrupt cancellation, the series has developed a cult following on the Internet. The show follows the adventures of two heroes, Chance Furlong and Jake Clawson. These two paramilitary cats were once part of an elite force in charge of defending MegaCat City. However, while on a mission, these two teammates crashed their jet and accidentally wreaked havoc on their paramilitary unit, the Enforcers. As punishment, Chance Furlong and Jake Clawson were forced to go to work at the nearby junkyard. The two scheming cats built an amazing craft out of the junk they found in the salvage yard. This F-14-like TurboCat flyer soon became the heart and soul of the paramilitary force which patrolled MegaCat City. Together, Chance and Jake led expedition after expedition against the evil Dark Kat. Episodes featured humorous character banter mixed in with stylized (sometimes clunky) action adventure sequences. Charlie Adler and Barry Gordon starred as the voices of the title character cats. Signed animatics and character cells from the show have sold for lots of money at auction to devoted collectors. Although the show was canceled more than a decade ago, its strong online following appears to be growing. Some Hollywood insiders speculate that the WB Animation studio may revive "SWAT Cats" in a modern incarnation. Original "SWAT Cats" memorabilia (film cells, toys, etc.) can sell quite well at auction, provided that pieces remain in good condition. |
