Directed by Brett Ratner and written by Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn, X Men 3, is the latest of the series of the movie adaptations of Marvel Comics’ brain child, X-Men. Released in May 2006, it is the predecessor to the movies X-Men (2000) and X-2 (2003). The plot of the movie revolves around the discovery of a cure for the mutant syndrome and the resurrection of Jean Grey who was believed to be deceased in the second film X-2. The development of a cure divides the mutant population into two segments, those against the cure and those who long for it. Seizing the opportunity, the bad guy Magneto, decides to form an alliance with some of the mutants against the cure; the alliance was termed as ‘The Brotherhood of Mutants’.
This film saw the inclusion of various new mutants such as ‘Juggernaut’, ‘Callisto’, ‘Multiple Man’, ‘Leech’, ‘Kitty Pryde’, ‘Beast’, and ‘Angel’. Also, seen in the movie were the main protagonists of the previous movies, ‘Wolverine’, ‘Storm’, ‘Phoenix’, ‘Cyclops’, ‘Mystique’, ‘Magneto’, and Professor Charles Xavier. The film revolves around the death of Professor Charles Xavier and Scott (‘Cyclops’) who are both killed by Jean Grey, who is in turn killed by Wolverine in an extraordinary climax with over-the-top visual effects.
Grossing $45.5 million domestically on the first day, X Men 3 the film became the third-highest earning movie after Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. During its four-day opening, this film raked in more than $122.9 million. The movie star cast includes reputed award winners such as Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer, and Ian McKellen. |
