Above ground pools have made huge gains in popularity in the past decade. More and more people want the pleasure of having a backyard pool, but don't want the expense and hassle that an in-ground pool brings. Above ground pools cost a fraction of what you'd pay to install an in-ground pool. Maintenance of an above ground pool is also simpler and less costly. Keeping your pool clean and sparkling is a top priority. Most pools come with a built-in filtration system that protects the pump from debris and larger flotsam. However, having a pool cleaner to supplement that filter is usually necessary. This will remove smaller contaminants, sediment and algae. A submersible pump keeps water circulating in your pool. Look for a pump that is labeled "corrosion-proof" and is easy to maintain. Pumps handle a tremendous amount of wear and tear, so you should choose a model that you can easily service. Without the insulation of earth around it, an above ground pool will have lower water temperatures. A heater will extend the season and make your pool more comfortable. Gas-powered heaters have been greatly improved in terms of noise and emissions, but solar power is still the best choice for most pools. Solar panels collect heat from sunlight and transfer it to your water. Using a cover when the pool is not in use will also conserve heat. When it does get too cold to swim, above ground pools have another advantage over in-ground versions, since they can be deflated or disassembled and stored away, leaving your yard free for other activities.
