Honda Motor Co. Ltd. introduced Magna early in 1982, though the first bike manufactured was reportedly sold in 1983. The bike was named as the Honda V45 Magna (the VF750C make) and was available in Candy Maroon or Candy Imperial Blue colored gas tank and side covers. The bike sported entirely chromed headlight, instruments panel, and the fenders. It had the straight grooved, double piston calipers, and TRAC anti-dive front disc brakes for extremely accurate braking.
The bike was built upon a 748 cc 16-valve 90 degree DOHC engine. The engine belonged to very few bikes that had a liquid cooling system. The drive system consisted of a 6-speed hydraulic transmission with a hydraulic clutch and shaft drive. It could easily touch a speed of 160 MPH with a redline meter of 10,000 RPMs. It could generate 105 BHP while delivering a torque of up to 93 Nm. The bike had a relaxed position seat suitable for long drives, its forte. The bike weighed about 574 lbs with an acceleration rate of covering a quarter mile under 11 seconds. It was the first production bike to achieve such an acceleration speed.
The only successor to this series of the bike is the Honda “V65” Magana launched in the same year. The V65 Magna used a superior 1098 cc V4 engine for more top-end power on the roads. The bike was structurally similar to the V45 Magna with little or negligible cosmetic changes. |
