Kronreif, Trunkenpolz, and Mattighofen are the three surnames that the KTM Motorcycle Company takes it current name from. This Austrian-based company was officially formed in 1954, but its history of building motorcycles can be traced as far back as 1937. However, the first U.S. KTM subsidiary was not established until 1978. In the competitive racing market, KTM motorcycles have always fared well. In fact, the KTM dirt bike has managed to continually capture the top honors at the Motocross World Championship. To date, the company has garnered over 100 world championship titles. In 2003, the company introduced the world to its KTM 950 Adventure series of dirt bikes. This robust bike is equipped with a 75-degree, V-Twin engine that has a displacement measuring around 942 cc. This formidable bike easily reaches speeds as high as 125 miles per hour. Even though the KTM 950 Adventure is a very powerful bike, the bike is fairly lightweight. It only weighs around 450 pounds, which makes it much easier to handle than most bikes in its class. What's more, the bike's chassis has been lowered a few inches to make it easier to mount and more comfortable for the average person to ride. Perhaps the best thing about the KTM 950 Adventure is that it is mounted on street-spec tires. This feature makes it suited for both street and off-road adventures. This dual-sport bike also gets good gas mileage, covering over 250 miles on the highway and around 180 miles off-road before needing to refuel. |
