The first Suzuki GSXR model, a sports bike, was the GSXR750, which debuted 1985. The production of this series continues till today and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2005. The first GSXRs are popularly referred to as ‘Slabside’, or ‘Slabbies’. Initially, between 1985 and 1992, large oil radiators and complex oil circulation systems were used in this series. Later, the models were upgraded on an annual basis.
The model launched in 2003 is called Suzuki GSX-R600. The in-line 4-stroke engine has a displacement of 599ccm (36.55 cubic inches). The power generated by the engine is 115 hp (83.9 kW) @ 12700 rpm. The torque offered by the bike’s engine measures 69Nm @ 10500 rpm. The compression ratio of the Suzuki GSX-R600 is 12.2:1, whereas the bore x stroke measures 67 x 42.5 mm. There is an injection fuel system with DOHC fuel control fixed into the GSX-R600. There are 4 valves that are allocated to each cylinder and the bike has a liquid cooling system. The 6-speed gear transmission allows a smooth ride.
The dry weight of the bike is 163kg and the seat height is 830mm. The overall length of this Suzuki model is 2,040mm, whereas the overall width is 715mm. The wheelbase of 1,400 mm provides stability on road. The 120/70-17 front tire and the 180/55-17 rear tire provide adequate traction on all surfaces. The bike has double disc front brakes and single disc rear breaks. The above characteristics of the chassis and the bike dimensions allow the Suzuki GSX-R600 to be a sturdy model. |
