The Triumph choppers are motorcycles, whose designs are radically altered to cater to customers specifications. The modification were most often done solely for aesthetic purposes, sometimes the old design were altered to improve the performance of the bike or to enhance stability. Another reason for the proliferation of choppers was the ego boost the owners were rendered with, due to the fact that they were riding a one of its kind bike, specifically designed according to their unique preferences.
For the Triumph chopper, the engine most commonly used is the 650cc air-cooled, twin cylinder engine. The 500cc and the 750cc Trident three cylinder engine are some of the other engine specifications. It had 4-speed unit transmission gearboxes that allowed gears to be changed without pressing the clutch. This was termed as ‘slick-shifting’ and was meant for racing. The bike frames had 4 distinct designs; a stock frame with a swing arm, a stock front frame having a bolt-on plunger section, a similar front frame with the hard tail welded to it, and an aftermarket hard-tail or plunger.
High handle bars coupled with a low slung saddle provided a unique seating arrangement that was easy on the back. Sometimes, the pillion rider was provided with a back rest. The exhaust pipes were modified and sometimes the front and rear forks were stretched and raked. Some of the choppers also showed removal of certain dispensable accessories such as turn indicators and fenders. All told, the Triumph chopper combined unique style with performance. |
