| Guns N' Roses is a hard rock band that grew famous during the late 1980s. Their onstage presence and style of music won over many fans who appreciated their authenticity. At a time when glam metal rock artist dominated the airwaves, GN’R changed the hard rock era of the 1980s with their gritty, more traditionalist music. Guns N’ Roses was founded in L.A. in March, 1985. The band was formed by singer Axl Rose, guitarists Tracii Guns and Izzy Stradlin, bassist Ole Beich (later replaced by Duff McKagan), and drummer Rob Gardner. The band’s name originated from two bands called Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns. The band’s breakthrough album titled “Appetite for Destruction” was released on July 21, 1987. Till date, ‘Appetite for Destruction’ has sold over 20 million copies and still holds the title for the best-selling debut album. Released in 1988, Guns N’ Roses’ second album, “G N' R Lies”, peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts. Their next release was a combination of two albums named “Use Your Illusion I” and “Use Your Illusion II”; both albums debuted at #2 and #1, respectively, on the Billboard charts. On November 23, 1993, GN’R launched “The Spaghetti Incident?”, which was a collection of punk covers. The group released their next album in 1998, titled “Chinese Democracy”. The band achieved worldwide success but heavy alcohol and drug abuse as well as the band members’ conflicting personalities stymied GN’R’s ability to work together. Front man Axl Rose is the only original member in the band's current lineup. Their aggressive music combined with tragic incidents that occurred during their live shows earned the group the title of “world’s most dangerous band”. |
