The fusion of a pentagram and a heart symbol, Heartagram is the official symbol of the Finnish rock band, HIM. This was originally created as a logo by the “Love Metal” band; HIM. According to one its members, Ville Valo, the heartagram is a representation of both love and death, which is a common theme in Valo’s lyrics.
Some people believe that the heartagram is associated with satanism, but Ville Valo denies all such claims. This symbol is also supported by many HIM fans in the form of a tattoo, including “Jackass” and skater stuntman, Bam Margera who has paid HIM a fee to license the symbol, allowing him to use it for promotional purposes. It also represents love metal and the band as a whole. HIM first formed its band with Ville and his old time buddies. HIM today is very different from the muddled, original, member substituted small time band that they initially were. In 1991, HIM was created as a small time band by typical teenagers who wanted to live life to the fullest, and experience the ultimate. HIM’s first gig took place at the Tavastia club in Helsinki Finland, however, during this period HIM did not perform under the name HIM, and played under the name, Kafferi.
They did make a demo track under the name Kafferi called, ‘Xilqa Xilqa Besa Besa’, although the bands name at that point was, ‘Witches and other Night Fears’. During this time the band was largely influenced by H.P. Lovecraft. This influence lead to the memorable song, Borellus, which was a demo track created around 1993. Till today, HIM fans are inspired by this revolutionary song. In 1995, their list included Stigmata Diaboli, the now rare, Wicked Game, and Phantom Gate, which is one of HIM’s most loved songs of their career. |
