Rock fans looking for the music of Incubus will need to have a few more details than just the name of the band at their disposal. "Incubus" as a band name has been frequently popular. Today you can find albums by no less than three incarnations of the Incubus name--none of which at present have anything to do with each other. Going in historical order, the first "Incubus" band came from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. This Incubus created music in the tradition of Motorhead, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Music by the original Incubus is also occasionally found on collections of '80s Deathrock. The next Incubus up for grabs: Inkubus/Sukkubus. A leading British Goth band of the 80s, this group originally called themselves "Bela Knapp" but switched to I/S in 1991. Neopagans, their music praises fairies, goblins, vampires, and the like. They have released multiple albums. Their Best Of album, Wytches & Vampyres, remains a popular introduction to their sound. The most recent and mainstream successful Incubus band is a five-guy American alternative rock/metal group out of Calabasas, California. Frequent headliners at Lollapalooza and Ozzfest, they are highly successful recording artists with an enormous fan base. In addition to their many albums, there are several DVDs and bootlegs of live performances which are considered highly collectible by fans. |
