| She is the only singer to have topped the Hot 100 charts even before being signed to any record label. Lisa Loeb became a renowned name when actor friend Ethane Hawke gave a tape of Loeb’s song “Stay” to Reality Bites director, Ben Stiller. An impressed Stiller agreed to take “Stay” as the film’s soundtrack. Soon, the track was topping the charts. Lisa Anne Loeb was born on March 11, 1968, at Bethesda in Maryland. She was brought up in Dallas and attended an all-girls private school, The Hockaday School. She graduated form high school in 1986 and enrolled at Brown University, where she earned a degree in comparative literature. While at Brown, Loeb and schoolmate Liz Mitchell formed a band named “Liz and Lisa” and released two albums. Loeb used to perform solo acoustic at the New York City coffeehouse circuit. She also sold a collection of her songs titled “The Purple Tape”. After her big break with Reality Bites, Loeb released her debut album “Tails”. One of the tracks from this album received as much acclaim as “Stay”. Her other albums include “Firecracker”, “Cake and Pie” and “Hello Lisa”. Her television debut was a guest appearance in “The Nanny” in 1997. She also featured in the horror film “House on Haunted Hill” (1999) and “Serial Kill 4 Dummies” (2004). She has lent her voice for several movies and television series. Her reality shows include “Dweezil and Lisa” on Food Network and “Colbert Report”. While working on “Tails”, she was dating Juan Patino. Loeb also had a longtime relationship with Dweezil Zappa which ended in May 2004. Loeb is known for wearing cat-eye-shaped tortoiseshell eyeglasses. |
