Snoop Dogg, originally known as Cordozar Calvin Broadus Junior was born on October 20, 1971. Snoop is mostly known as an MC in the West Coast hip-hop scene; however the Dogg is also well-known for his contribution as a record producer and an actor. Nick named ‘snoopy’ by his mom; Snoop Dogg took the name Snoop Doggy Dogg when he began recording. After ditching Death Row Records, he signed with No Limit Records and changed his name to Snoop Dogg in 1996.
Best known for his distinctive calm and lazy drawl lyrical delivery, Snoop has had many hit releases as well countless movies. After being featured in Dr. Dre’s debut solo album ‘The Chronic’, it was evident that Snoop had talent. His first album, ‘Doggystyle’ was released in 1993 despite of the ongoing murder trial. After the intense trial, Snoop released a short film titled ‘Murder was the Case’ along with a soundtrack in 1994. The ‘Doggfather’ was released in 1996 after the whole era of ‘gansta rap’ faded out with the death of Tupac Shakur. The album ‘No Limit Top Dogg’ was released in 1999, and exposed less of the hardcore gansta rap and more of a laid back sound. His next album ‘The Last Meal’ had lyrics that portrayed his ‘pimp lifestyle’. Snoop also recorded several compilation, collaborative, and soundtrack albums which brought him immense fame and fortune.
Some of them included ‘Snoop Dogg Presents...Doggy Style Allstars’, ‘Welcome To Tha House Vol. 1’ which introduced many new artists, and ‘The Wash Soundtrack’ which was co-produced by Dr. Dre. Snoop also launched three ‘greatest hits albums’ which were all hits in the US and UK. |
