Boston Whaler, Inc. is a recreational boat manufacturer that prides itself on creating an unsinkable ship. According to the company, their boats can hold 100 people while filled with water and not sink. They even cut one of their 13-foot boats in half just to prove that the boat would still stay afloat after being severely damaged. The secret to the unsinkable Boston Whaler boats is Unibond⢠foam construction. Boston Whalers are filled with Unibond⢠throughout the hull, creating a level, floating boat even when it is swamped with water. Most boats will float when swamped, but with the stern below water and the bow bobbing above water. With a Boston Whaler boat, you'll be able to safely make it to shore even if you've been swamped by rain or waves. The unique center console design that is standard in all Boston Whalers was invented by Boston Whaler founder Richard T. Fisher. With the center console, the helm is no longer on the starboard side of the craft but in the center. This allows for smoother steering and a more stable keel. The center console design has since become very popular in recreational boats. The proven durability of the Boston Whaler ship piqued the interest of the military, law enforcement and fire departments. In 1983, Boston Whaler began work on producing special boats for these forces. In a test of the buoyancy of the Boston Whalers, the United States Marine Corps unloaded 1,000 rounds of ammunition into the hull of a Boston Whaler boat. The 22-foot boat stayed afloat. |
