Ferrari is a world-famous Italian sports car manufacturer, which was established by Enzo Ferrari, in 1929. This company only built race cars and sponsored drivers till 1946, shortly after which the first road car was introduced. Since then, Ferrari has offered innumerable models of sports cars, which have aided the company in building its reputation as a manufacturer of high-performance, top-quality sports cars. The Ferrari racing team made its debut appearance in the Formula One, F1, in 1950. Today, Ferrari is the oldest team in the F1 world championship having enjoyed an extraordinary run of success in these races. The 308 series established Ferrari as a leading manufacturer of exotic sports cars for regular road travel. This series was basically offered in two body styles, viz. the GTB or Berlinetta body with a solid roof and additional rigidity, and the GTS, or spider body, that had a removable fiberglass roof panel. The 308 GTB, introduced by Ferrari in 1975, was a two-seat road car based on 3 liter V8 engine. It had fiberglass bodywork with a mid-engine configuration. Several models of Ferrari 308 have been offered over the years. The 308, 308i and 308qv form the three generations of the Ferrari 308. Each of these generations can be distinguished by their minor styling and accent differences. The original 308 had a carburetor, and was produced, till 1980. The next couple of years saw the introduction of the fuel-injected 308i. In 1982, the 308qv or Quattrovalvole was introduced. This also was a fuel-injected vehicle; however it had four valves per cylinder. The 308 series enabled the driver and the passengers to enjoy the racecar thrill and an overall comfortable ride. |
