GT Bikes have been leading the BMX scene, since 1972. GT Bicycles is a US manufacturer of road, mountain, and BMX bicycles. The company partnered with Schwinn in 1998, but the corporation went bankrupt in 2001, and is now owned by Pacific. BMX is an abbreviation for bicycle motocross. The sport is divided into two types, BMX racing and BMX freestyle. The BMX racing includes races on sandy and hilly tracks. BMX freestyle includes the presentation of tricks, on flat ground, wooden slopes or obstructions found on the streets. BMX racing and freestyle is now a professional activity. The GT bikeâs design is specialized to handle the requirements of different riding styles. The GT bikes have integrated the head tube with the forks and bars, and also have an aluminum GT piston stem, aluminum three-piece cranks, and an SDG I-beam saddle. It has a 36-spoke wheel set, micro gearing with pinion guard, and rear U-brakes with dual lower cables to provide better performance. GT freestyle bicycles have the freestyle forks and jumping bars and a unique GT saddle. BMX racing in the US consists of 2 leagues, NBL (National Bicycle League) and ABA (American Bicycle Association). GT 2006 freestyle BMX series include Team, King Pro, Performer, Compe, Zone, Fueler, Bump, and Fly. The GTâs 2006 race series include Mach One Pro, Mach One Junior, Mach One F/W, Mach One Junior C/B, Mini Power Series 24, Power Series Expert, Power Series Junior, Power Series Ultra Box, and Power Series Xl. A unique feature of freestyle bikes is that they have a device that allows the handlebars to be spun 360 degrees without tangling the brake cables. The company has won 15 UCI World Championship titles, 10 US National Pro titles and more than 600 Pro winners. The GT Pro BMX racers are well-known.
