Snowmobile trailers are available in a variety of sizes and designs including wide trailers for fitting sleds side-by-side. Other designs are made to drive the sled in and out with plenty of turn-around space. A typical trailer may be from six feet by 17 feet to as big as 8.5 feet by 33 feet. A front ramp door is an absolute must have for ease of entry. Some designs also include a side door for the convenience of fueling the sleds. The type of framing is important since the snowmobile trailer is exposed to long periods of moisture. Aluminum framing is preferred by many since it doesn't rust. This might include a .030 smooth aluminum exterior, aluminum fenders, and a double hollow aluminum tube frame. The interior of many models of snowmobile trailers is 3/4'' plywood flooring. The axles in some snowmobile trailers are tandem 3,500 pound axles with electric brakes or single 3,500 pound axles with Torflex idler. Other trailers, such as some tilt models, have a 2,000 pound capacity. The tilt trailers are available for one, two, three, or four sled occupancy. The V-front entry makes it easy to drive the sleds onto the trailer. Tough and durable tie downs are an absolute necessity with systems using recessed rope ties in the floor to secure the sleds. Other systems use recessed D-rings, aluminum tie-down bars, and other options for securing sleds for transport. In addition, trailer or C-rated tires are recommended for safety on snowmobile trailers. |
