About Car Tire

Let's go over some basics of car tire maintenance and repair. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has run numerous studies to observe the relationship between underinflated tires and accidents. The results of these NHTSA studies are startling. Car tire underinflation causes thousands of accidents every year. It's the number-one cause of domestic traffic tire failure.Generally, your tires will drop about one P.S.I. every month. During colder months, your pressure will drop even more. The worst consequence of underinflation is total tire failure. However, even minor underinflation can cause uneven wear and tear, asymmetries in vehicle part wear and tear, and fuel consumption inefficiencies. Thus, you should check out your car tire pressure at least once a month and before going on long trips.Along those lines, you should regularly review your tires for damage and uneven wear. Look for cracks in the treads or rubber lining. Screws, stones, and nails may be so deeply imbedded in your tires that they look like specs of dirt. Well-made tires can survive minor punctures, but you shouldn't leave these wounds to fester--inevitably, tire pressure will go down. Finally, balance and rotate your tires according to your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. Generally, this is around every 6,000 miles. The ideal rotation pattern is something called cross rotation, wherein you move your right front tire to your left rear and vice versa. This cross rotation provides maximum protection against wear and tear and asymmetries. Finally, rear- and front-wheel-drive tires tend to suffer more asymmetries than four-wheel-drive tires do.
